Happy birthday to me.
For consecutive weeks now, I find myself strolling along the the road of Jalan Besar and its alleys. So far the colorful buildings with intricate designs and rustic look never failed to amuse my sight. I love walking in the part of this country despite the summer heat.
This time I just needed to have my caffeine fix but I find it difficult to decide as to which cafe I should visit this time. Either I would revisit CSHH or I will try going to Broers. I realized that last year I also spent sometime in a cafe -Loysel’s toy – for my birthday. I’ve got no plans and might as well randomly walk and enter a cafe.
With all my whisicality, I decided to go for Broers. It was a nice, simple, hidden cafe that offers good pastries and excellent coffee.
Design. The Broers Cafe was simple and slightly hidden from the main road. I actually overlooked the building where the cafe was located thinking it was not there.
The cafe was simple but has a nice, warm and cozy feeling to it. The decors were kept to minimum, maintaining simplicity. Well, rather than focusing with the interiors of the cafe, you could just have a nice lng chat with a friend, read a book, write your thoughts or just enjoy the coffee and pastry.
The cafe was very simple being only decorated with a few wall decors. In one wall, there was a print of various country origins of coffee beans. It was painted in the wall neatly in a circular design. In another wall was a bulletin with several post-its posted on it. It was definitely the most colorful part of the cafe since the post-its were of various neon colors. There were several, different things written on each one. It was interesting to look at. Another wall has two strings with various post cards hanging on it. It was artsy but a typical design. I also found two vinyl players that were not functioning that that time. I would very much appreciate if they had played it.
There was really nothing much to see in the cafe. Because it was simple. Despite it’s simplicity, there was the warm atmosphere created by the friendliness of the staff.
Coffee and Pastry. The cafe has a pretty good selection of pastries and the barristas will try to accomodate the coffee taste of the customer. I ordered a cappuccino and a slice of caramel mousse cake.
I fancy caramel stuff because I like sweet things. And the colorful layers of this cake just really caught my attention. I might as well order it since I wanted to try it. It was so good and the caramel was not very sweet. Even though I say that I love sweet things, I couldn’t really bear extreme sweetness. I sometimes find it disgusting.
The cake however has a thin layer of caramel and the rest were chocolate and mocha mousse which might have contrasted the sweet caramel flavor. The result was perfect though.
My cappuccino was bland. It was good though. I regretted telling the barrista that I don’t like a very strong coffee. In the end, I got myself a cup that I’m not used to. I should have just ordered a normal one. Anyway, despite my coffee being too light it wasn’t so bad. It just did not satisfy me.
Service. There were only 3 staff on duty when I visited the cafe. 2 service and 1 acting mainly as the barrista.
The staffs were friendly and addressed my need as soon as they find me looking troubled. I did asked for suggestion that led me to a bland cup of coffee. That was entirely my fault though.
Since I am alone and there doesn’t seem to be a table for a person or two, I decided to sit by the bar. It was too high for me but I did enjoy seating there as I could see the movements of the staff as well as the rest of the cafe.
The staffs have good rapport with the customers, especially the barrista. They are busy but they try to talk with the customers and attend to their needs. That might have cause the warmth of the cafe.
It was definitely a good place to hang out with its great atmosphere, accommodating staffs, and affordable food and coffee.
Whereabouts. The Broers Cafe. 3 Petain Road.
The nearest MRT station was Farrer Park (North-East Line). From the station, it will be some quite good walk to get to the cafe. The area was filled with old buildings and it will be a feast for the eyes. Well, at least that was the case for me. I took time taking photos during my stroll and it was fun.
The nearest bus stop was After Allenby Road in Jelan Besar. The bus service numbers 23, 64, 65, 66, 67, 130, 139, 147 and 857 are all passing by this in the bus stop. And from the bus stop, it will only be a short distance to get to the cafe.

Good morning, Thursday! These photos were taken about two weeks ago in the Flower Dome of Gardens by the Bay. That’s in Singapore by the way.
I was being a little vain recently but I think it’s for my own well-being. Dressing up and eating slightly healthy foods and even doing exercises. I feel happy when I look in the mirror and see myself pretty. So I believe it’s doing me good.
Being feminine is such a hassle but it lifts my mood. I was born female so my only option is to enhance it. And being female is never easy. It takes so much time and effort just taking care of yourself.
So to all the females out there, we should be proud of ourselves. We should never ridicule ourselves. Wear your confidence, that’s the best dress you could have. You should always raise your chin and face forward. Being female alone is difficult, not everybody understands that but there are people who do. Well, it’s not Women’s Month but still, cheers to us WOMEN!
